DOUR share debut album AGORA
DOUR
"Agora has the presence and weight of a Rothko painting; dark and grand, contemplative, and all-encompassing. Something to get lost in." - The Line of Best Fit
"A beautifully emotional purge." - Treble
"An incredibly strong debut." - Out Of Rage
Vancouver's DOUR today release AGORA, their debut album, out now on all streaming platforms.
Of the album, Zak Salehian says: "Agora is our outcry. It's leaving the puppet theatre and taking those you love hand in hand. It claims, admits, and acknowledges the climb out of the well, the walk to the sea, the finding of a message in a bottle that reads, "I love you, I'm here, I understand, and I miss you."
Across AGORA, DOUR sketch a stark view of contemporary life, shaped by technological saturation, social detachment, and the erosion of self. There is a sense of people folding inwards, caught between awareness and inertia. Lyrically and sonically, AGORA does not tidy this discomfort. It stays with it, letting repetition, tension, and space convey the weight of the material.
The record carries more than the weight of a debut. Written and recorded with an earlier incarnation of the band, including bassist Gabe Jacob Ferman, who passed away in January this year before its release, AGORA has been put out unchanged - a document of a creative partnership that the music now outlives. Rather than leaving these songs behind, DOUR have chosen to give the work a life beyond the room where it was made.
Speaking on Gabe's legacy, Zak said: "Releasing the record needed to happen, I felt that Gabe deserves it to be released as intended since he can no longer speak for himself. We worked really hard on getting this record together. If it was something that was treated without any care or value I believe he'd haunt me for life, and when I join him I wouldn't hear the end of it. This record means a lot to us, we believe it to have intrinsic value, especially because of the time it's being released. We believe it reflects things accurately, as grim as they may be. We are tired of billionaires, we are tired of the chase to survivability, all whilst remaining impoverished, as the majority of younger people are. This record is for those who wish to be understood."
Since the album was completed, the band has evolved into a new lineup - a close-knit collective whose shared sense of purpose extends beyond the music itself. Their live shows have grown alongside this, becoming less about replication and more about reinterpreting the material in light of who the band is now.
DOUR first emerged with their 2025 EP Rudiments, they've gone on to draw support from Alternative Press, The Line of Best Fit, Under The Radar, DIY Magazine, and Northern Transmissions, among many others and have shared stages with acts including CHALK, DZ Death Rays, Omni, Friko, Art d'Ecco, and Tropical Fuck Storm.
