Today, Glaswegian singer-songwriter Lizzie Reid has shared a smouldering new single titled ‘Sentimental’. The track follows the recent announcement of her new EP Undoing (out 17th April) and comes ahead of her UK headline tour dates that will follow shortly after.
Since releasing her breakthrough, SAY Award shortlisted debut ‘Cubicle’, Reid has successfully become what so many artists aspire towards: a musician’s musician. Not only has she earned widespread plaudits for her raw exploration of quiet and devastating topics, and landed support slots for the likes of Jasmine 4.t, John Cale, Hamish Hawk, Arlo Parks, and Tori Amos, but she has also collaborated and played with some of Scotland’s most active up-and-coming acts. She recently joined Jacob Alon on stage for his Critics Choice winning BRITs performance, in addition to supporting him for BRITs Week for War Child, as well as working the likes of Dead Pony, Lucia & The Best Boys, and Katie Gregson-MacLeod. Now, as she continues this enviable, cult ascent, Reid returns the focus to her most unrestrained and vulnerable work to date.
Following the widely praised release of the EP’s grand opener ‘Sweet Relief’ last month, the new single ‘Sentimental’ combines a satisfying, unashamedly slinky indie-pop bass groove with lyrics that capture the newfound confidence and self-awareness at the heart of Reid’s writing - “You said I’m being sentimental, but is that going your way?”
Speaking on the single, Reid says, “Sentimental is song about a habit of showing affection when maybe the best thing to do is to walk away from a situation. If I can’t give someone what they want or need, it’s best to walk away rather than feeding them crumbs. I’m a believer in showing you care for someone, but not if it gives false hope of them eventually getting more from you.”

Reid is not shy of the ugliness of rage or the awkwardness of grief. She is not timid when it comes to putting her life to music; indeed, for Reid, it is in the baring all, in the outpouring itself that her work finds its true north. Undoing invites the listener to view the EP as Reid does herself, as an opportunity for unlearning now defunct patterns of thinking and behaviour, a means to discover new life amongst the ashes.
To celebrate Undoing, Reid will be heading out on tour in late April/early May. Full dates are as follows:
