Single release: 'And Then We Had Nothing At All' by Dark Dark Horse
Release date: 26 January 2018
Label: Little Fanfare
More info: Band website

Dark Dark Horse premiere new single at Magnetic Magazine

"The song features Stafford’s soaring vocals over a track that slowly builds into a large crescendo. The drums slowly build alongside synths, piano, strings and eventually electric guitar in an epic finale." – Magnetic Magazine

Dark Dark Horse is a Leicester duo comprising of Jamie Ward (producer/multi-instrumentalist) and James Stafford (singer) who collectively create expertly crafted glacial pop-electronica steeped in indie rock sensibilities.

After a break from activity whilst Ward toured full time with globetrotting ‘astonishing’ instrumentalists Maybeshewill, 2017 marked the rebirth of the band. Having released EP, 'Luna II' in April and recently signing a publishing deal with Warner’s W Songs, Dark Dark Horse are ready to return with the elegant and emotive new single ‘And Then We Had Nothing At All’ on January 26th via Little Fanfare.

“'And Then We Had Nothing At All' is perhaps the most epic and ambitious song we've recorded so far. At over seven minutes long it defies the typical conventions of a single but it's power, beauty and grandeur was something we felt needed its own space.” explains Ward. It's a sound that feels totally organic and blissfully simplistic, yet stylishly layered and polished, simultaneously. “A kaleidoscope of swirling reverse synths, dusty samples from my mother’s children's music classes, pounding drums and sweeping violin… we really threw the kitchen sink at this one.”

Lyrically, Stafford touches on a seemingly darkening impression of the future - in which the struggle between over analysing the present or consciously turning a blind eye to the problems we face, can create a stunned ambivalence towards each. It's a delicate and emotional issue that people have struggled with universally - and one that Dark Dark Horse explore powerfully.

Live: Sebright Arms, London - 8th of February – Supporting HOLY

Wild Ones debut album due 6 October 2017

wild-ones.jpg

Album release: 'Mirror Touch' by Wild Ones
Release date: 6 October 2017
Label: Topshelf Records
More info: Band website

Wild Ones (Portland, OR) are sharing another single in advance of the release of their sophomore album, 'Mirror Touch', out October 6th on Topshelf Records. 'Invite Me In' is a sensuous pop cut, which The Line Of Best Fit called "crisp, clean, and understated, with a funky bassline."

Vocalist Danielle Sullivan says," 'Invite Me In' is my favorite song on our record. It's the first track that Thomas sent me that gave me a clear feeling of what 'Mirror Touch' could become. It's about living a guarded life, about constructing a false image of oneself, and how it feels to let someone in despite it all." Listen to 'Invite Me In'.

Nylon premiered the first single 'Paresthesia' calling it "a catchy indie gem with a deeper meaning." GoldFlakePaint premiered 'Standing in the Back at Your Show' calling it "a sumptuous undertaking, one that bleeds an acutely subtle prickliness through the elegant shell of the composition which does its best to hide the such sentiments from view."

Wild Ones delve into the bliss and burden that musicians are tasked with today: create work that captures your spirit, but do it without selling your soul. Self-produced and recorded, they walk the line of DIY oddity and polished pop sheen. Hailing from Portland, Oregon, the band combines the talents of lead vocalist Danielle Sullivan, keyboardist Thomas Himes, drummer Seve Sheldon, guitarist Nick Vicario and bassist Max Stein. Growing up on Cocteau Twins and En Vogue, their sound is a mash of R&B synths, muted guitar, and somber vocal melodies. After 7 years together, they've hit their stride in creating work that poses questions about art and authenticity.

'Mirror Touch', the band’s latest record releasing in October 2017 via Topshelf Records, explores spaces of isolation, loneliness and how it feels when the line between self and other becomes blurred. The record title refers to the condition "Mirror Touch Synesthesia" and the physiological experience of empathy. How can you know yourself, when in public you become everyone else? The songs explore the quest to maintain artistic self-integrity in an industry that seeks to homogenize. Solitary in their process of collaboration, Himes and Vicario produce the music, while Sullivan crafts lyrics and melodies, their attempt at self-preservation against the ever-changing expectations of what music should or should not be. Combining their style of upbeat melodies with a backdrop of darker lyrical themes, an inquiry into their artistic process ultimately reflects a balance between earnest head nods to their favourite sounds with a fierce loyalty to their own sense of self.

Simian Ghost album out 29 September 2017

Simian Ghost.jpg

Album release: Simian Ghost
Release date: 29 September 2017
Label: Heist or Hit
More info: Band website

Today Simian Ghost release another slice of effortless joy in the progressive pop of 'Climb The Walls', a lush 8 minutes that journeys through what they do best. A bassline that lends from fellow Swedes ABBA, meets an infectious and expansive feel that combines the likes of The Radio Dept, M83 and the sounds that have already made a name for the band in the past. You can listen to 'Climb The Walls' here.

Simian Ghost started out as a recording project by Swedish songwriter Sebastian Arnström and after two well received solo releases became a fully-fledged band a few years back – picking up extensive international press and acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork, The Guardian (who called Youth a “contender for album of the year”) and, most impressively of all, a lead review in The Times which saw a certain Bruce Springsteen designated a small column that week instead.

The band have since released an ambitious 18 track record in 'The Veil', and remained close, a family even - Sebastian and bandmate Erik Klinga being exactly that, brothers - patiently honing themselves away to work on their sound, and recently adding a fourth member in bassist Wilhem Magnusson. In 2017 they arrive having done what any band in their right mind might do to combat the uncertainty of our modern world, they’ve retained both hope, optimism and their all-encompassing knack for melody - and they’ve written a pop record.

Having made all their previous recordings at home with minimal equipment and resources, this album (self-titled and out September 29th on Heist Or Hit) will be the first to contain some studio-recorded material and you can feel that leap up in production on all four of the singles so far. ”We’re just a bunch of guys doing stuff at home really”, the band states, ”so in many ways this feels like our debut album all over again. And this time we’re ready.”

Diet Cig add The Spook School to UK tour and add extra London date

Tour announcement: Diet Cig with The Spook School
Tour dates: October 2017
More info: Band website

NY's Diet Cig today added Scottish indie-poppers The Spook School to their upcoming UK dates and also add a second London date at The Moth Club after the first sold out.

The band also recently shared the video for 'Barf Day',' a highlight of their much-loved debut album Swear I'm Good At This. Watch 'Barf Day' here.

'Swear I'm Good At This' was released this Spring via Frenchkiss Records to world-wide critical acclaim. It is the follow up to the infectious, 2015 Over Easy EP that introduced the world to the band's consistent sing-a-long lyrics with thrashing drums and strums that never held back. Swear I'm Good At This accumulates Diet Cig's tenacity for crafting life-affirming, relatable tales with a gutsy heart at their core. Luciano has the ability to write lyrics that are both vulnerable and direct, perfecting a storm of emotive reflection that creates a vision of a sweaty, pumped-up room screaming these lines in unison.

Diet Cig make it okay to be the hot mess that you are. The LP was produced, engineered and mixed by Christopher Daly at Salvation Recording Co. in New Paltz, NY with additional recording at Atomic Sound in New York City.

Emelie Hollow single 'Like I Love You' out now

Single release: ‘Like I Love You’ by Emelie Hollow
Release date: Out now
Label: Universal
More info: Artist Facebook

Hailing from Norway, Emelie Hollow is already displaying a sharp musicality and songwriting talent that transcends her 18 years. She has written music with several Scandinavian producers and songwriters already, including Dhani Lennevald (Lykke Li) and Carl Falk (Demi Lovato, Nicki Minaj, One Direction, Ariana Grande) and her brand-new track, the smart pop and R&B flavour of 'Like I Love You' premiered on The Line Of Best Fit last week.

Emelie Hollow was born in Norway to a Norwegian mother and a father from New Zealand. From an early age, she was making and listening to music; learning to play piano, guitar and cello, all the while growing into a great vocalist and in turn, a capriciously talented songwriter. She credits an eclectic range of musicians as having an influence on her sound, from NAO to Carole King to The Weekend.

On the track itself she says:

“For me, 'Like I Love You' is the beginning of a new chapter in my life, where I can explore and work with my music on other new levels. While I wrote the song in Stockholm, I lost my phone in a glass of water but I didn’t have time to be concerned about it because I was digging it too much – the phone survived! Even though it´s scary to release something completely different from what people have heard from me before, I’m really looking forward to presenting 'Like I Love You'. I hope people like it.”

'Like I Love You' is written by Emelie Hollow and written/produced by Dhani Lennevald (Lykke Li) and Carl Falk (Demi Lovato, One Direction, Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande).

Terrace release debut album ‘We Fall Together’ on 1 June

Album Release: "We Fall Together" by Terrace
Release Date: 1 June 2015
More Information / listen: www.terraceband.com

Simon Lock formed Terrace in 2010 with intent that Terrace will make music that doesn't obey the fickle music "scene". Too many sub genres confuse the palate and create short lived trends. Instead, why not make music that can reference the past, lighten the future and live in the present?

"As a band, we have one main goal, which is... to create and play unpretentious dance music that pays no attention to current fads. Rather than follow the rest of the herd, we pull strongly from our deep roots in House Music, Techno, Funk, Disco, Brit Pop, Post Punk, and Ambient and throw it all together in one ear pleasing mix."

"We infuse every song with our deep passion for music and really focus on making the track unique. It has to remind you of all the things you love about music."

With the release of their first single "Cote d' Azur" in November 2014 the band plans to release their first full length album with the new line up by Spring 2015.

Terrace the band is Simon Lock (Vox, Guitar, keyboard, drum programming), Kalani Polson (Drums, Percussion) Alex Cooper (Guitar, Keys, Backing Vox).

Inner Tongue: "Tz, Ka" EP release

Inner Tongue

EP release: "Tz, Ka" by Inner Tongue
Release date: 1 June 2015
Listen / more information: on Inner Tongue Soundcloud page

What does a musician do when they’re forced to spend months in absolute, total silence? In the case of Inner Tongue, they simply continue on as before: writing lyrics, harmonies and melodies, working on perfect beats, all the time unsure how, when – or indeed whether – the individual components will ever be combined. Fortunately, on this occasion we can skip straight to a happy ending: in May 2015, Inner Tongue releases his debut EP, "Tz, Ka".

A project undertaken by one man in his mid twenties, Inner Tongue offers the sound of victory over an uncertain future: in 2013, its exponent was diagnosed with a vocal cord disorder so severe that only a handful of specialists throughout the entire world were capable of treating it at all. Still, given that the gift of a voice is sacred to a musician, he worked day and night to raise the funds necessary to pay for the required operation, and, after the procedure, embarked on a protracted period of silence. With this, inevitably, came the unbearable uncertainty of not knowing whether he’d ever be able to use his voice as he once had.

“Until the first follow-up appointment,” Inner Tongue explains, “I hid myself in total silence in my apartment. I was totally depressed, and refused to write any music. But somehow I was drawn from my sofa to my piano, and tried to overcome my fear. So I decided to modify my musical focus temporarily by writing songs which could produce a melodic tension without vocals, but which featured the traits of forward-looking pop music. What emerged came from an entirely new perspective. It was as if someone had pressed a reset button on the musical identity I had of myself."

Eight months after the operation, Inner Tongue was at last able to use his voice fully, and it turned out that not only is his unlikely history sensational, but also his talent. Working in his current home base of Vienna amid a thriving electronic scene – though he finds as much inspiration in the quiet serenity of the mountains as in the hustle and bustle of the city – the all-rounder wrote and produced his songs alone, before gathering musician friends around him to arrange them. (Even his videos, conceived with an ambitious sense of his overall artistic vision, are made with close allies on his own initiative.) Having recorded the tracks, he then travelled around the world in pursuit of vital finishing touches, calling upon Matt Boynton (MGMT, Kurt Vile etc.) in New York, and, especially, John Catlin (Foals, Warpaint, The Naked And Famous etc.) in London.

The resulting work combines the lightness of touch that distinguishes Death Cab For Cutie, the heartfelt perfection found in SOHN’s sonic realms, and the intuition evident in Chet Faker. ‘Fallen Empire’ cleverly knits deft, nonchalant beats with elements that at times recall James Blake, while ‘Tz Ka’ boasts delicacy and astonishing depth. The EP’s standout track, however is undeniably ‘Somebody Knows It’: opening with a ballad-like piano, it’s soon reinforced by subdued drums and floating synths, and by the time his gentle, vulnerable voice appears, it’s clear that something extraordinary is happening. Remarkably, furthermore, ‘Somebody Knows It’ worked on the very first take. “That was a really emotional moment for me,” Inner Tongue recalls with pleasure. “Until then I honestly wasn’t sure I would ever sing my own songs again."

Bright and dreamy, though often undercut by the presence of a dark, almost physical bass, the soundscape of Inner Tongue’s songs is always harmonious, but nonetheless flirts constantly with discord. His lyrics, too, offer a tremendously reflective intensity, that fragile voice delivering them through a meditative pulse of restrained, intelligent beats. Classifying such hypnotic, understated pop isn’t easy, but the result is a small miracle, and the lust for life unleashed by the successful realisation of Inner Tongue’s creativity penetrates his restraint with a tranquil but substantial force. As the video for ‘Fallen Empire’ illustrates so beautifully, he’s not afraid to make his own rules. Whether the joy is in the game or the victory, however, is anybody’s guess.

Wolf Colony: Debut Album 'Unmasked'

Wolf Colony

Album release: "Unmasked" by Wolf Colony
Release date: 03/03/15
Listen on: Wolf Colony website

“It’s always been a special treat when an act whom we had been previously unaware of completely sweeps us off of our feet.” - The Music Ninja

“Wolf Colony is the kind of music for dancing alone. Maybe with a lover. Maybe with the fresh laundry you need to fold. Maybe just a little car dancing. It’s dark but far from depressing.” - The Burning Ear

“Gosh, “Youth is another jam. It is the perfect example of music and lyrics complementing each other so well.” - Sunset in the Rearview

“Percussive pop and sultry electronics forge a sound and a song in “Beauty” that is so enticing, it is impossible to not be charmed.” - Mostly Junkfood

Based out of New York City, Wolf Colony is an anonymous singer-songwriter who began collaborating with music producer Neal Sarin in 2012 with no initial intention of pursuing a career as a recording artist.

Wolf Colony delivers a new blend of electronic-pop, drawing influences from 80s synth-pop to indie rock, while slipping in subtle stylistic nuances inspired by various contemporary electronic artists. Rather than indulging in over-production, Wolf Colony adorns his songs with relatively bare arrangements, leaving ample room for his unique vocal presence and deeply personal lyricism.

Since the release of his debut EP, Welcome to the Wild Side, Wolf Colony has organically grown a global following and has performed at various music venues including Bowery Ballroom, House of Blues and Brooklyn Bowl.

In 2015, Wolf Colony plans to debut his full-length album entitled, “Unmasked”, which is exclusively produced by Sarin. The LP will feature previously released favorites, “Beauty”, “Youth” and “Holy” in addition to an array of unreleased material.
