Dreamy guitar pop from The Good Suns

The Good Suns: Double A-side single ‘Shadow / At Last I’m Bored’ – released 14 February 2011

In performing their beautifully crafted, old-time pop gems in and around London for the past year, The Good Suns have won a faithful following that have fallen for their dreamy guitar pop.

At the core sits the partnership of James Hearn and Bobby McBrierty - a songwriting duo in the purest sense and meticulous over every word they pen. Their lyrics connect over similar themes of love, lust, and the anxiety of going nowhere fast.

Their songs are reminiscent of the back to basics hook laden pop that drives the likes of Girls and Surfer Blood, combined with the infectious melodies of Burt Bacharach and early Beatles. Every note is raised and backed by reverb heavy, virtuoso guitar bliss from Adam Smith and the increasingly impressive rhythm section of Bobby McBrierty and Greg Sullivan.

February sees their first official release in the double A-side of Shadow/At Last I’m Bored. Both tracks epitomise much of the above. Shadow, their roof-raising set closer, is an ode to departed and dear friends, whilst At Last I’m Bored is an ideal showcase for their trademark infectious harmonies. It delivers more with each listen.

The Good Suns strive to create a place for their visceral guitar pop in this country’s rich musical heritage. If their progress thus far is anything to go by, they are undoubtedly on the right track.
