Ireland's Æ Mak returns with new single

Praise for Æ Mak:

“Breaks the mould, extraordinary” - The Line of Best Fit

“Music that defies classification, songs that you can dance to with hooks galore” - NPR

Æ Mak aka Aoife McCann shares new single ’Shimmer Boy’ as well as announcing mixtape Berlin out 21st April, plus a UK/IRE tour to support the release.

She’s supported Tune Yards, Django Django, Warpaint, plus performed at some of the UK/Ireland’s biggest festivals, and been covered by the likes of Official Charts, DORK, The Line Of Best Fit, NPR, CLASH, Nialler9, and more.

From Ireland and a performer of art-pop music (think Sia, Grimes, Paul Simon energy with the limbs of a young David Byrne), she moved to Berlin with her best mate on broken hearts and dreams of a new home.

’Shimmer Boy’ has that nostalgic indie sound with lyrics made out of a text message chain. McCann says of the single, “I headed over to Berlin for a couple of months late 2021 and this was the first song I made there. I didn't have a mic that week so I just recorded the vocals and harmonica with the laptop mic and leaned into that nostalgic indie sound. The lyrics are made up of a stream of texts between me and Shimmer Boy himself. The start of a bit of magic. We both live in Berlin now.”

She adds about the video, "The video is really a snapshot of my new life in Berlin, pals and new love and chaos and feeling lost/overwhelmed.”

Berlin is a collection of songs inspired by winter; harmonica, sexting, dancing, chest flames, clubs, self-destruction, rebirth and baked cheesecakes. Additional production and mixes by some of her favourite producers - ATRIP, Kojaque and David Noonan (Just Mustard).

Æ Mak also announces a string of live dates in the UK and Ireland, as well as performing at Sharpe Festival, and How The Light Gets In. Tickets on-sale now HERE
