Jazz music PR

It has been a real privilege to work with the team at Prescription PR. In the fast moving world of music publicity it’s a rarity to work with such a driven team of publicists who will take the time to understand, nurture and develop the story you’re trying to tell and then amplify this into a dynamic and vibrant campaign, leaving no stone unturned along the way. The results they have achieved for our artists have been phenomenal, but above all it’s the team’s genuine and sincere passion for music that shines through.

When it comes to jazz music you can often be caught between two different realms of press within the same genre; traditional publications and emerging online platforms. There are established audiences for both, and they are constantly evolving as new styles develop and the scene changes.

You need a PR company that knows how to navigate this terrain, whilst finding avenues to take your music to newer audiences.

We like to think that our team can not only help you gain coverage in traditional jazz publications, but can also take artists outside of the realms of the jazz press and reach into publications covering indie, urban, punk, electronic and experimental music. This helps create diversity with regard to who the music is reaching and helps to allow it to evolve.

Even now there are still a lot of preconceptions of jazz music held by those that aren’t immediate fans, and both artists and labels alike are working hard to break down those assumptions (or even musical prejudices). We think that the media are keen to do the same now, and are eager to help push that angle.

Our track record in jazz PR

Our team have strong connections with the traditional sources of coverage, including Mojo, Uncut, Jazzwise (where we’ve secured numerous covers), Jazz Journal, All About Jazz, The Wire, London Jazz News, Jazz In Europe and Record Collector; but we have also been able to secure coverage for a number of our artists in less conventional publications such as Pitchfork, NPR, Rolling Stone, NY Times, Stereogum, the Quietus, Aquarium Drunkard, and Stamp The Wax.

We’ve seen our jazz artists featured as No. 1 urban and No.2 jazz albums of the year in Mojo and have had multiple jazz and contemporary album of the month reviews in The Guardian and secured 5 star reviews in London’s Evening Standard.

We recently negotiated with esteemed London jazz venues such as Ronnie Scott’s and The 606 Club to help promote the 14 Dreyfus Jazz reissues across their social media during the EFG London Jazz Festival, to maximise exposure to new and traditional fans.

Working with established and new jazz acts

Our roster includes estimable labels such as International Anthem, Gearbox Records, Naim Records, Superior Viaduct, First Word Records, Jazzland, Whirlwind Recordings, Svart Records, Sony BMG, Dreyfus Jazz and Universal.

Over the last few years we’re proud to have represented several name artists in the genre, including Mercury-nominated Sons of Kemet member Theon CrossMakaya McCraven and Art Ensemble of Chicago bassist Junius Paul, London jazz trailblazers and MOBO Award winners Binker Golding and Moses Boyd, lauded Indo-jazz percussionist and composer Sarathy Korwar, Kamasi Washington collaborator and LA legend Dwight Trible, Radiohead collaborator Yazz Ahmed, Mercury Prize winning Nitin Sawhney, and solo Polish platinum-selling bassist Wojtek Mazolewski.

We are also very proud to have worked on releases from jazz legends such as South African legend Abdullah IbrahimThelonious Monk (top 10 Billboard jazz release), Miles Davis and John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Stan Getz, and Lester Young.

Whilst we are privileged to work with such well-known artists, we are also very happy to be representing a number of incredible unsigned artists and are able to put their albums into the hands of writers that we know are right for the release, even without label backing.

For instance, we have recently worked alongside Bristol experimental jazz duo Run Logan Run on their debut album ‘The Delicate Balance of Terror’, which received high praise from the The Wire, Gigwise, BBC 6 Music, Jazz FM, Electronic Sound, Next Bop, Jazzwise, Jazz Journal, Shindig! and CLASH, as well as being added to Worldwide FM’s monthly radio playlist.

Whether you’re looking to push a traditional jazz release, or you are putting a new twist on the genre, we can get your music to the right people and more. We are also able to handle specialist radio on such projects – so if you’re looking for a team that can cover all your promotional needs then we can do just that. Get in touch today!

Their 5-star service will increase chances of 5-star reviews! Prescription are an absolute joy to work with — and they deliver great results, actively participating in all stages of a project where required, even in the planning. Love their enthusiasm too.
