We are excited to confirm the component releases of last year’s The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook!!! in three formats (standalone CD / standalone DVD / Deluxe CD + DVD) for March 12 2012 internationally.

Elvis Costello returned to the stage in 2011 with his celebrated Spinning Wheel tour and now comes the definitive document of this tour: The Return of the Spectacular Spinning Songbook!!!, recorded over a 2-night stand at The Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles on May 11 and 12, 2011, shows which The Los Angeles Times said were the kind of uniquely invigorating experience that warrants a buzzword all its own: inspiring. Costello once again allowed his set-list to be chosen by The Spectacular Spinning Songbook, a monumental game-show type wheel spun by select fans and featuring songs from his latest critically acclaimed release National Ransom, plus new renditions of hits, rarities and very unexpected covers.

CD and DVD Deluxe Edition

This Deluxe Edition of The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook!!! includes a CD, DVD and 28-page booklet filled with musings from Napoleon Dynamite (aka Elvis Costello), the MC of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook show. Recorded over a 2-night stand at The Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles on May 11 and 12, 2011, the CD was culled from both nights' performances, shows which The Los Angeles Times said were "the kind of uniquely invigorating experience that warrants a buzzword all its own: inspiring." and includes popular songs such as Everyday I Write The Book, God Give Me Strength, Watching The Detectives, (What's So Funny `bout) Peace, Love and Understanding plus a cover of the Rolling Stones' Out Of Time; an extended I Want You; and the return of The Bangles on Tear Off Your Own Head.

The DVD is from Costello's show on May 12, 2011 and includes a special guest appearance by The Bangles. The DVD contains bonus footage including an alternate intro by Napoleon Dynamite (aka Elvis Costello), and behind-the-scenes moments captured with the Imposters - Steve Nieve, Davey Faragher and Pete Thomas - as well as extra performances not included in the main set of the show.

The CD and DVD are also available individually.

Album reissue: Diana Ross, Diana Ross
Release date: 5 March 2012
Label: Universal / IMS

Diana Ross, originally issued in 1976, was Diana Ross's first full-length solo studio album in more than two years. It arrived on the heels of Mahogany, Diana's record-breaking second feature film that included her No. 1 hit, Theme From Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To), and surprised audiences around the world with a whole new Diana Ross. The album included familiar sounds, from Theme From Mahogany to the ballad I Thought It Took A Little Time (But Today I Fell In Love), but took an unexpected twist with Diana's first-ever disco song, Love Hangover, which became another No. 1 smash, and Diana's most-sampled song.

Diana Ross: Expanded Edition is a 2-CD set that features the newly re-mastered original album, single-only mixes, non-LP singles, the super-rare promotional single Coming Home, and new alternate mixes of nearly the entire album. There's even more: three never-before-heard performances from the sessions - Harmony, a cover of the Elton John classic; and Go Where Your Mind Is and Le Lo Li, produced by Jeffrey Bowen with help Sly Stone. Rounding out the collection is an excerpt from a Diana Ross interview that hasn't been heard in 36 years.

The gorgeous package - a digi-pak like previous Diana Ross Expanded Editions - contains a deluxe 24-page booklet with detailed song annotations and the story of the album by compilation producers Andrew Skurow and George Solomon, and features spectacular photos from the renowned cover photo shoot.

Album release: The Vice of The People by The Albion Band
Release date: April 30 2012
Label: Powered Flight Music
Listen: http://www.poweredflightmusic.com/

"We have a hell of a heritage to live up to, but with this record we're confident we've made something that stands comfortably alongside anything the genre has had to offer. It's contemporary, relevant and will bring the concept of traditionally rooted rock to a new audience." - Blair Dunlop

"Wipe away any nostalgic tears... an impressive ensemble as refreshing as the original project. Surprisingly audacious!" Maverick

Alongside Steeleye Span and Fairport Convention, The Albion Band are one of the "big three" of English folk-rock, fusing traditional British songs and tunes with contemporary instruments and sounds. All three were formed by legendary band leader Ashley Hutchings. Generally considered one of the most important groupings in the genre, The Albion Band has contained or been associated with a large proportion of major English folk performers from Richard Thompson to Martin Carthy in its long and fluid history.

Until 2011, the one constant has been Albion Band leader and bass player Ashley Hutchings but, on the fortieth anniversary of the band's founding, an idea was sparked for a re-imagined, new line-up that would bring together a new generation of performers. The new line-up recaptures the spirit of The Albion Band's heyday with a rockier, edgier approach to traditional English folk music. Taking the unique character of classic era Albion Band (Battle of the Field/Rise Up like The Sun) and fusing it with award winning song writing and a contemporary rock and indie vibe, this is the new sound of 21st century English Folk Rock, and a shot in the arm for the whole genre.

For the first time in the band’s history, Ashley steps aside to let son, Blair Dunlop, lead a new generation of folk artists. This new line up features a number of performers from a range of backgrounds reflecting earlier versions of the Albion Band. These members include Folk Award nominee Katriona Gilmore (Tiny Tin Lady, Gilmore/Roberts - Fiddle and vocals) the traditionally biased vocalist, concertina player and guitarist Gavin Davenport, (Solo, Crucible) drummer Tom Wright (former Young Folk Award finalist and member of Eliza Carthy projects, Glorystrokes), and Tim Yates (Blackbeard's Tea Party/The QP) taking on the onerous duty of playing bass - only the second bass player - the first being Ashley Hutchings himself - and lead guitarist Benjamin Trott.

Such a radical overhaul of Albion recruits has met with some controversy, given that no original member of the band remains after Hutchings’ departure, but the startling debut album strikes a contemporary chord that is set to firmly answer many questions.

Throughout March, the band will embark on a 26-date national UK tour.

Limited edition album releases: T-Rex, Electric Warrior
Release date: 23 April 2012 (with 7" single box set being released on 21 April)
Label: Universal

Universal Music is pleased to announce a deluxe, super-deluxe, a special vinyl and digital exclusive editions of T. Rex’s monumental Electric Warrior album on April 23 2012. It will be preceded by a box set of singles produced especially for Record Store Day 2012 (April 21 2012).

These new editions are crammed with previously unreleased demos and out-takes - the centrepiece of which is original producer Tony Visconti’s re-mastered version of Electric Warrior.

This year is the 40th anniversary of Glam Rock, or the "Glamiversary" as some have christened it. Electric Warrior was T. Rex’s second album, released in September 1971. It was T. Rex’s No. 1 single Hot Love which sparked a movement that gathered pace throughout 1971 to become a fully-fledged phenomenon in 1972. 1971 was the year Marc Bolan broke big, and thanks to a touch of glitter under his eye when performing "Hot Love" on the March 10 edition of Top Of The Pops, he was to herald a new pop era, Glam or Glitter Rock. By the end of 1971 Bolan and Rexmania was as close as anyone had come to Beatlemania since 1963.

Electric Warrior topped the UK album charts twice, from December 18 1971 to January 29 1972 and again from February 5 to February 19 1972.

About the new editions

The centrepiece is original producer Tony Visconti’s re-mastered version of Electric Warrior, which is presented with four bonus tracks - the non-album single, Hot Love (No. 1 in February 1971) plus the B-sides There Was A Time / Raw Ramp, King Of The Mountain Cometh and Woodland Rock.

The second disc in the deluxe and super-deluxe editions opens with Marc Bolan reciting a previously unreleased poem called The Electric Warrior which was recorded for a US Radio promo that is featured in full at the end of the album.

This is followed by an alternative version of the album comprised from previously unreleased demos and out-takes. In addition there are unreleased demos recorded in London and New York of a recently discovered untitled instrumental from the Hot Love sessions and a T. Rex cover of Carl Perkins’ rockabilly classic Honey Don’t.

The limited edition super deluxe edition of Electric Warrior will be housed in a lavish box set which is foil-blocked and de-bossed. It will contain the two CDs plus a DVD of rare and unreleased TV performances and promos by the group, and a wealth of additional items - alongside a 32-page hardback book featuring a brand new essay from Bolan biographer Mark Paytress (this includes new interviews with those who were close to Marc). The box also includes reproductions of rare photos and memorabilia: a poster including a timeline, three photographs, a coaster and a vintage press release.

The DVD includes the only two surviving Top of the Pops performances from the BBC archive of T Rex’s Electric Warrior-era hits – Hot Love and Get It On, the latter featuring Elton John. The DVD also includes the previously unseen Blue Screen versions of Jeepster and Life’s A Gas from Germany’s Beat Club plus the actual broadcast versions of Jeepster and Life’s A Gas. The rarely seen official promo videos for Get It On and Jeepster are also included, plus live performances of Girl and Cosmic Dancer which were recorded at the performance of T. Rex’s historic Wembley Empire Pool concerts on March 18 1972. These were not included in the concert film Born To Boogie (which used none of the matinée concert footage).

Tony Visconti’s re-mastered version of the album will be released on vinyl for the very first time as a double LP.

Universal Music Group will also be releasing a very limited edition boxset on Record Store Day 2012 (Saturday April 21) containing four 7” singles pressed on heavy weight vinyl and featuring unique sleeves.

Album release: The Wedding Present, Valentina
Release date: March 19 2012
Label: Scopitones

The Wedding Present will be releasing their much-anticipated eighth studio album Valentina on March 19 2012, released in the UK on their own Scopitones label. It was recorded by the group in France, California and Brighton during 2011 and mixed by Andrew Scheps (whose past credits include Metallica, Iggy Pop and Johnny Cash).

The ten track Valentina comes four years after 2008’s El Rey, the longer than usual delay reflecting The Wedding Present’s commitment to touring and other side projects involving the group’s founding member, David Gedge.

Valentina is performed by:

David Gedge: Singing, guitars and percussion

Graeme Ramsay (co-writer with Gedge of all but one of the songs on the album): guitars, piano, harmonium

Pepe le Moko: bass and backing vocals

Charles Layton: drums and percussion

Following an album launch event at the South By Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas, the band will be embarking on a month long tour of North America. This tour will be extra special because, as well as celebrating the release of Valentina, they will be playing their classic album Seamonsters live, in its entirety. The Wedding Present recorded Seamonsters with Steve Albini in 1991.

Following the North American dates, the band will also be playing Valentina and Seamonsters in Australia, Japan and Continental Europe before bringing the whole event home with an extensive tour of The United Kingdom and Ireland in the autumn.

Aside from a hiatus between 1998 and 2005 when he focused on recording and touring with Cinerama, David Gedge has been fronting The Wedding Present since 1985 when the Leeds-based four piece released its debut single, Go Out And Get ‘Em, Boy! for their own independent Reception Records label. Since then the group have had 18 Top Forty singles.

Albums include the group’s first major critical and commercial breakthrough with 1987’s George Best and Bizarro, which provided their first hit singles Kennedy and Brassneck. Take Fountain marked the group’s return in 2005, Mojo commenting “that Gedge has never before assimilated harsh rock textures to orchestral arrangements with such power” and The Times asserting that it confirmed Gedge’s “status as an extraordinary songwriter.”

Reissues: The Small Faces albums, 1965-69
Release date: May 7 2012
Label: Universal

On May 7 2012, Universal Music Catalogue is set to release deluxe editions of the four albums released by The Small Faces during their short but highly creative and eventful lifetime between 1965 and 1969.

The albums in question - Small Faces, Decca, April 1966; From the Beginning, Decca, June 1967; Small Faces, Immediate, June 1967 and Ogden's Nut Gone Flake, Immediate, June 1968 - are each released as deluxe two-disc editions with the notable exception of Ogden's Nut Gone Flake which has now been expanded to three discs.

Kenney Jones and Ian “Mac” McLagan have overseen and approved these new, definitive editions, including the re-mastering and artwork. All related non-album singles and alternate versions of the album session recordings, many of which are previously unreleased or released for the first time on CD, have also been added. In the case of Odgen's Nut Gone Flake, there are separate discs for the mono and stereo formats and a third disc of previously unreleased material – early session versions, alternate USA mixes, instrumentals and the previously unreleased backing track Kamikhazi.

Complete with rare photos and memorabilia, each album package includes liner notes by Mark Paytress featuring entertaining and fascinating new interviews with the surviving members of the Small Faces, Ian McLagan and Kenney Jones.

It was Andrew Oldham who coined the phrase ‘there are but four Small Faces’, the group establishing its familiar line up of Steve Marriott, Ronnie Lane, Kenny Jones and Ian McLagan in November 1965, once McLagan replaced Jimmy Winston behind the keyboards. McLagan joined within three months of the group’s debut single, Watcha Gonna Do About It (which reached No. 14 in the charts in September 1965) adding the final ingredient to their distinctive sound.

Over the next two years The Small Faces achieved truly iconic status with a series of hits that included Sha La La La Lee, All Or Nothing, My Mind’s Eye, Itchycoo Park and Lazy Sunday, their celebrity heightened by their flamboyant appearance and bigger than life personalities, their sound shifting from explosive, spirited ‘mod’ anthems to memorable psychedelic pop culminating in the artistic triumph that was Ogden's Nut Gone Flake.

Never short on controversy, following a managerial dispute, The Small Faces left Decca for Andrew Oldham’s Immediate label, hitting the charts for Oldham’s label straight away with Here Comes The Nice, which was released in June 1967.

In the meantime, My Mind’s Eye was released by Decca in November 1966 followed by I Can’t Make It in March 1967 and Patterns in May 1967. Decca also rush-released an album, From the Beginning, in competition with the band’s impending debut album for Immediate. From the Beginning was a collection of outtakes, singles and works in progress which, despite its untidy origins, more than holds up today. The Small Faces Immediate debut, confusingly titled Small Faces, made it into the stores just two weeks later. In the battle of the LP charts, Immediate won out, reaching the No. 12 position to Decca’s No. 17.

The most celebrated Small Faces LP, Ogden's Nut Gone Flake was easily their most successful, enjoying a six-week run at the top of the UK charts during June and July 1968. Originally packaged in an elaborately designed round sleeve like a tobacco tin, it signaled the arrival of the Small Faces as a bona fide ‘album band’, a brilliant achievement just months ahead of the group’s acrimonious collapse within a year of its release.

The Small Faces have since taken their place alongside the likes The Who or the Kinks as one of the most fondly remembered, original and wonderful British groups of the 60s. Their best loved songs are still on rotation to this day, Itchicoo Park and Lazy Sunday both re-charting in the 70s while the individual reputations of both Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane have grown considerably since their untimely deaths. Kenney Jones and Ian McLagan have enjoyed success in their own right and, of course, with Ronnie Lane, were founder members of members of The Faces.

This series of reissues, the most complete editions to date of the Small Faces four classic albums, is a testimony to a truly original group whose influence is as great today as it was during its lifetime.

Album release: Two Wings, Love’s Spring
Release date: April 30 2012
Label: Tin Angel Records
Listen: http://soundcloud.com/tin-angel-records/sets/two-wings-loves-spring/s-vKJKr

As the noughties came to a close, Two Wings (whose core members are singer/multi-instrumentalist/visual artist Hanna Tuulikki and guitarist/singer Ben Reynolds) had its birth. Having spent years bumping into each other in Glasgow’s burgeoning folk scene, the pair finally took some time out to explore and develop their own compositions together, following in the direction of their many musical passions - from traditional folk (rock) to rock n’ roll to psychedelia to soul and beyond.

Glasgow has always been fertile ground for those seeking to synthesize traditional/popular musical forms with a more progressive approach, and Hanna and Ben have long been travellers on this path. Hanna's experimental song-based project Nalle was described by Wire Magazine as “easily some of the most convincing free-folk the UK has ever produced”. She was also a member of free-form jazz folk ensemble Scatter and The Family Elan. Ben has been a solo artist for many years and his numerous releases include the 2009 solo guitar album How Day Earnt Its Night, released by New York's Tompkins Square Records. Ben was also the original lead-guitarist in critically acclaimed Glasgow folk-rockers Trembling Bells and has collaborated with a number of other artists including Glasgow's Alasdair Roberts and Tin Angel Records' Baby Dee.

Tin Angel Records has made quite a noise with some of its recent signings, and Two Wings join an already fabulous roster. On tracks like the album opener Eikon, Hanna’s utterly unique vocals steal the show, while the seven minute title track is progressive, haunting, even unsettling at times. Elsewhere, Alters & Thrones marries twinkles and chimes with ethereal vocals and the 8-minute epic album closer Forbidden Sublime purposefully meanders its way to a spellbinding climax. Two Wings are quite simply impossible to ignore.

Two Wings' line-up is completed by instrument builder and bass guitarist Kenny Wilson, singer Lucy Duncombe and drummer Owen Curtis Williams (Wood Pigeon, Eagleowl, Rob St John, Benni Hemm Hemm).

2011 was a great year for Jake Morley, who picked up national radio support from Dermot O’Leary, Jo Whiley, Janice Long, Tom Robinson and Chris Hawkins, as well as garnering national press for his sold-out gigs and performances including City Showcase, Music Week Breakout and two nights at the Hammersmith Apollo supporting Joe Bonamassa.

Feet Don’t Fail Me Now is taken from the forthcoming album Many Fish To Fry. The album originally had a soft release in early 2011 but resulting media and industry interest led to Jake signing a licensing deal with the Icebreaker Fund. The album and live DVD with bonus material will be released on April 2 via his own record label, Sandwich Emporium Records. Jake and his band will hit the road in April for a 20+ date headline tour of the UK and Ireland.

ake’s intriguing lap tapping guitar style, his strong songs and engaging performances convert initially curious audiences into ardent fans at every gig. His autumn tour took him as far north as Thurso in Scotland and as far south as Exeter.

Single release: The Lesser by the Decibels
Release date: March 26, 2011
Label: Serious Types
Listen: www.decibels.tv

A blissful mix of lo-fi, ambient, electro and Indie, Decibels’ debut single The Lesser sees its UK release on March 26th through Serious Types, in the midst of a swell of blog coverage, BBC Radio support and, perhaps most excitingly, an appearance of their track Rubber Dinghy Rapids on a forthcoming Warp Records ‘Bleep’ compilation.

Decibels are Stuart Bruce (lead vocals, keys, percussion, looping), Dave Crawford (synths, programming, sound manipulation), Anthony Luk (synths, guitar, baritone harmonies), Marin Luk (synths, soprano harmonies, percussion) and Adam Branaghan (guitar, tenor harmonies, percussion). The band came together after meeting at a rave in Northampton’s woods, instantly bonding over a shared vision of a project fusing 4 synths, a guitar and a hell of a lot of percussion.

Initially just supplying remixes to other artists, original tracks soon began to surface, with interest in the band constantly on the rise. Word spread as BBC Introducing and various online bloggers all got on board, and soon, Decibels were having songs featured on blog mix-tapes, Fake DIY, and appeared on Huw Stephen’s Radio One show, as well as numerous BBC Introducing shows.

In order to take the leap from laptop to live, they took the desperate measure of selling guitars, amps, and acquiring any kit they could lay their hands on. Finally the bleeps and sequences of the studio were tweaked for the live arena, and ever since their filthy percussion-laden live shows have left behind a trail of broken sound men, blown speakers and blown away audiences.

Finding a niche was easy, establishing themselves in it is now the key.

Decibels will be featured on a Bleep compilation (in conjunction with Warp records) set for release mid March. This is followed by The Lesser; the band are keeping the DIY-ethos by funding the it themselves, and it is released digitally on 26th March 2012.
